The Big Lebowski Birthday Screening @ Whale Theatre

It’s the Father Ted of stoner movies, Jeff Bridges playing strongly to type as the footloose and job-free Jeffrey Lebowski – who would really rather you call him The Dude. Or His Dudeness. Or Duder. Or El Duderino, if you’re not into the whole brevity thing.

Hard to believe it’s been 23 years since The Coen Brothers followed up their 1996 Oscar-winning noir masterpiece Fargo with this slapstick Carry On, Bridges joined by the likes of John Goodman as the trigger-angry Vietnam vet Walter Sobchak, Steve Buscemi as the cowering Donny and Jon Torturro as convicted pederast Jesus Quintana, alongside many other fine cameos.

Only David Thwelis and Julianne Moore let the side down as thoroughly modernist avant garde artists who sorely need to be punched squarely in the face.

Coming back to the big screen at The Whale to mark Jeff Bridges’ 72nd birthday on December 4th, The Dude will be celebrated not only with that 1998 classic (including White Russians at the bar and free freshly-popped popcorn) but also a pre-screening nosh-up at Sonny’s, with one of their sumptuous burgers alongside some fries and a mighty beverage (including wine, beer or some fizzy pop). The meal and the movie costs you €30, whilst there will be a limited number of movie only tickets for €10. Sonny’s is at 6pm, The Big Lebowski on the big screen at 8pm.
